Two Ways In

Crew or Roster. Pick Your Path.

Most contractors are vague about how they staff. We are not. There are two ways to work with GMB, and they suit different people at different points in a career.

Regular Crew

Steady, planned construction and maintenance work. Consistent crews, known schedules, and a career path from groundman to foreman. This is the core of the business.

Storm Roster

Event-based work. You sign up, we call when a storm hits, and you deploy with a crew. Long hours, hard conditions, and the pay that comes with them. Roster work is how a lot of linemen make their year

Why GMB

What Makes This Different

Leadership That Came Up Through the Trade
Our owners and supervisors climbed poles. They know what a bad plan feels like at the top of a structure, and they do not put crews in that position.
Supervision You Can Actually Find
The people running your job are on the job. Consistent leadership on every crew, planned work or storm work.
Woman- and Lineman-Owned
The people who own this company have done the work. It shows in how crews are treated.
Room to Move Up
Groundmen become apprentices. Apprentices become journeymen. Journeymen become foremen. We promote from within because that is how the owners got here.

Life on the Crew

What the Job Actually Looks Like

A group of workers in yellow safety vests gathered outside a utility building, discussing their roles.
Mornings start with a job briefing and a hazard analysis, not a scramble. Crews are staffed for the work, supervised by someone with real field time, and equipped with utility-grade trucks and tooling that get maintained. The work is demanding and nobody pretends otherwise. But nobody is asking you to cut a corner to make a number, either. The feedback we hear most from clients, organized, thorough, easy to work with, comes from how the crews run. That standard is the job.

The Storm Roster

Be First in Line for the Callout

When a storm takes a system down, utilities need qualified crews faster than anyone can hire them. That is what the roster is for. Get on it, stay qualified, and you get called.
Step

01

Apply and get on the roster. We verify your qualifications, credentials, and safety record up front, before there is any urgency.
Step

02

We call when an event activates. You confirm availability and deployment details.

Step

03

You mobilize with a GMB crew under GMB supervision, working to the same standard as any other job.

Training & Career Path

Start on the Ground.
Finish Running the Job.

The people who own this company started in the field, so we take the path seriously. We hire groundmen with no experience and we promote from within.

01 Groundman

Learn the trade, the tools, and the safety standard from the ground up

02 Apprentice

Complete your hours and classroom requirements under journeyman supervision.

03 Journeyman / Foreman

Run the work, then run the crew.

Safety

You Go Home the Way You Came

Safety is the first value here, and it is not a poster in the break room. Every job starts with a structured hazard analysis. Every crew member carries stop-work authority. Supervision is accountable, and so is ownership. That standard does not loosen on storm work. When the pressure is highest and everyone wants the lights back on, that is exactly when a rushed job gets someone hurt. We do not run that way.

Common Questions

Candidate FAQ

What is the difference between regular crew and the storm roster?
Regular crew is steady, planned construction and maintenance work. The storm roster is event-based: you sign up, we call when a storm activates, and you deploy for the duration. Many linemen do both over a career.
Apprentice and groundman positions are typically filled through the appropriate IBEW union hall. Individuals interested in these opportunities should contact their local union hall for information about eligibility, training and available placements.
Is GMB a union contractor?
Yes. GMB is an IBEW-affiliated contractor and works with skilled union professionals to support projects throughout the country.
Planned work is regional wherever possible. Storm work means deploying wherever the event is, for as long as it takes.
